An instrument that measures the ability of a substance to resist flow of electricity is called surface resistance. It is also known by name sheet resistance. To measure the surface resistance two parallel electrodes are placed at a distance to each other having equal contact length. Resistance measure is based on various factors such as humidity and resistivity of the material. The result derived from the surface resistance testing can differ based on the size of the material and the electrode that are used in testing. The instrument used for testing surface resistance is called surface resistance meter. The application of surface resistance instrument can be seen manufacturing process and static control. It is used for testing effectiveness of auditing and ESD work surface. Following factors should be considered while the application of such surface resistance meters:
- The accuracy it gives while testing. A higher accuracy resistance meter can be expensive but will be helpful in long run.
- Choose the right voltage and it depends upon the material that is required to be tested.
- The display of the result, whether it will be shown digitally or in scales.
- The test range, which is based on the material to be tested.
Energy consumption and power fluctuations
can be recorded with voltage logger. They are available in different
version and used for measuring AC and DC voltage. Some of the types of voltage
logger range from 1 Volt to 10 Volt. Even some are available in USB form. Most
of the voltage loggers have LCD displays through which real time data recoded can
be displayed. These loggers shall be selected based on the applications. The benefits
of using such loggers are that time and cost is saved. It data can be recorded
automatically and sent easily. Manual involvement is not required and the
reliability of data is more.
The other instrument used for measurements is temp log. As the name suggest it is a monitoring device that records temperature over a period of time. The best thing is that they are portable. This log can be easily placed inside any device. It accepts sensor inputs and records the same at a fixed frequency.
